چکیده

We consider a scalar elliptic equation for a composite medium consisting of homogeneous C1,α0 inclusions, 0 < α0 ≤ 1, embedded in a constant matrix phase. When the inclusions are separated and are separated from the boundary, the solution has an integral representation, in terms of potential functions defined on the boundary of each inclusion. We study the system of integral equations satisfied by these potential functions as the distance between two inclusions tends to 0. We show that the potential functions converge in C0,α, 0 < α < α0 to limiting potential functions, with which one can represent the solution when the inclusions are touching. As a consequence, we obtain uniform C1,α bounds on the solution, which are independent of the inter–inclusion distances.

Some multiscale methods for elliptic equations in high-contrast heterogeneous media

In this paper, we study multiscale methods for high-contrast elliptic problems where the media properties change dramatically. The disparity in the media properties introduces an additional scale that needs to be resolved in multiscale simulations. First, we present a construction that uses an integral equation to represent the high-contrast component of the solution. This representation involv...

Electrostatics of Anisotropic Inclusions in Anisotropic Media

There are many ways to solve potential problems for anisotropic mixtures. The nite element method is a popular choice with great exibility that gives the solution in the entire computational domain. EEective medium approximation is a simpler option that only estimates eeective properties. Interface integral equation methods is a third class of methods that has been studied for a long time, but ...

The /^-operator and the Galerkin Method for Strongly Elliptic Equations on Smooth Curves: Local Estimates

Superconvergence in the L2-norm for the Galerkin approximation of the integral equation Lu = f is studied, where I is a strongly elliptic pseudodifferential operator on a smooth, closed or open curve. Let Uf, be the Galerkin approximation to u . By using the ^-operator, an operator that averages the values of uh , we will construct a better approximation than uh itself. That better approximatio...

Numerical homogenization via approximation of the solution operator

The paper describes techniques for constructing simplified models for problems governed by elliptic equations involving heterogeneous media. Examples of problems under consideration include electro-statics and linear elasticity in composite materials, and flows in porous media. A common approach to such problems is to either up-scale the governing differential equation and then discretize the u...
